Bus cuts across Southwark introduced by stealth are condemned by Caroline Pidgeon

by VMMChamberlain on 20 March, 2018

The full details of cuts to bus services across Southwark have been revealed by Caroline Pidgeon, the Liberal Democrat Londonwide Assembly Member.

Through carefully monitoring of the bus changes she has discovered three cuts to bus services which have already been implemented without TfL even informing the public before the changes came into place.

Last week TfL confirmed they had cut the 468 bus route from Elephant and Castle to South Croydon.  The reduced bus service actually started last July.

Recently TfL also admitted it had cut last from last Summer the 68 bus route from Euston to West Norwood and also the 225 bus route running from Canada Water to Hither Green.

The three cuts in bus routes, which TfL have only just admitted to, come on top of the savage cut in the RV1 bus service, which has seen its service cut in half. Earlier this month I handed the 900 signature petition I set up to save the RV1 and give residents and passengers a say on the bus cuts to Caroline. This allowed her to present it to the Mayor during the London Assembly Plenary meeting.

Commenting on these cuts in bus services Caroline Pidgeon said:

“I don’t know what Sadiq Khan has against people in Southwark, but he certainly seems determined to cut a number of bus services used by local residents.

“The fact that the bus cuts have been happening by stealth simply adds insult to injury.

“If there is a case for changing the frequency of bus routes it is vital that TfL are upfront about the reasons, and provide an opportunity for stakeholders and the public to respond to their proposals.

“Cutting bus services and then telling people months later is an appalling practice which needs to immediately end.”
